This photograph, probably taken in the French Alps, shows a group of people watching as the tire is being changed on an automobile. I wonder what it was like for Delizy to make this photograph. What made them press the shutter? Was it the newness of the automobile or the reactions of the bystanders? I can imagine Delizy watching them, observing what it might have been like to be one of those women, in those clothes, watching this spectacle. The image conveys a kind of curiosity, with the women's faces hidden from view, making them somewhat anonymous. There is a directness here that really speaks to me. This feels like a very modern image. It feels like Delizy is not just recording a scene, but actually trying to capture a feeling, a mood, and an experience. There is a dialogue happening, with the artist, the subjects, and the landscape all speaking to one another. I am also part of this conversation.
