Curator: Here we have "Initial C" from an anonymous artist, residing in the Harvard Art Museums. It's fascinating to consider how seemingly simple illuminated letters were integral to disseminating knowledge. Editor: It feels weighty, doesn't it? Like a small, powerful spell. The animal inside the "C" looks like it’s trying to escape. Curator: Right, the bestiaries, the animal allegories of the time... they are often laden with moral and religious symbolism. This image must be viewed within its historical and theological context. Editor: Of course. But still, the feeling… the animal crammed in there makes me wonder what voice was trying to break free, what story needed an outlet. Curator: Indeed, this particular illuminated letter reminds us that even the smallest fragment can spark contemplation about knowledge, power, and expression. Editor: And, I think, about the wild things we try to contain, even now.
