These black and white photographs mounted on card, titled 'Buitenactiviteiten,' which means ‘outdoor activities’ in Dutch, evoke a sense of time passed. The arrangement of these small pictures resembles a sketchbook page, where memories overlap and intertwine. I’m drawn to the image of figures in the water, the ripples of movement frozen in time. The darks and lights create contrast, emphasizing the immediacy and the accidental nature of the scene. It makes me think of the way light catches on water, how it distorts and refracts. The blurred lines invite my own interpretation, turning a mundane scene into a dreamlike encounter. It speaks to the physicality of lived experience, the way we engage with our environment through touch and movement. This approach to documentation, of weaving together fragments of experience, reminds me of the work of Gerhard Richter; the way he uses photography as a source of blurring and distortion to explore the boundaries between representation and abstraction. What is captured and what remains just out of view?
