This is a cabinet card from the "Actresses" series, produced by the Kinney Brothers Tobacco Company in 1890. It features a portrait of actress May L. Smith, holding a sword, and was issued as a promotional item for Sweet Caporal Cigarettes. The card is a black and white photograph, printed on a card stock with dimensions of 2 1/2 × 1 7/16 in. (6.4 × 3.7 cm). These collectible cards were very popular in the late 19th century and featured portraits of famous people of the day. The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City holds this particular card in their collection.
