Victor Vasarely made this geometric painting, Carden, sometime in the 20th century using bright acrylic paints. It’s a trip, right? I can imagine Vasarely mapping out these complex shapes. The colors are so vibrant, like they're buzzing with energy. It reminds me a bit of Josef Albers’ color studies, but on acid. I am thinking about how the painting's flat surface gives the illusion of depth, and how these optical games mess with your perception. I mean, is it flat? Is it three-dimensional? That tension is part of the fun! I picture him, brush in hand, carefully filling in each square, maybe zoning out to some groovy tunes. These colors and shapes, they’re not just decorative, they're creating a whole vibe. These artists are all in conversation with each other across time, playing off each other's ideas. It is a reminder that art is alive, always evolving, and ready to mess with your mind.
