Julio Le Parc made this artwork, Serie 26D, No. 1-3 3-1, 3-1 1-3, which I imagine was achieved through a rather mathematical and systematic approach to colour and form. It looks like there's a method here – a system – which is the starting point from which the piece evolves. These little colourful circles arranged in such a grid-like way vibrate before your eyes, don’t they? The material aspect is interesting; the opacity of the paint allows some colours to bleed into others, creating new shades and tones. Consider the lower-left corner, where the green seems to dissolve into yellow. This effect creates depth and movement, as if the colours are in constant flux. The squares also give it a kind of orderly, organised effect. This piece reminds me of Bridget Riley's Op Art or even some early computer art experiments. But Le Parc brings a warmth and vibrancy that’s all his own. It’s a testament to how art is always in conversation with itself, evolving and transforming across time. This piece is a reminder that ambiguity can be a source of endless fascination, and that there is always more to discover beyond the surface.
