Hélène de Beauvoir made "Je t'aime, Ah Dis Le Avec Des Paves" with paint, and lots of it! There's a real sense of urgency here, like she's wrestling with the image. The paint is layered thick, almost sculptural in places, especially around those figures in the foreground. You can practically feel the weight of each brushstroke, the way she's loaded the brush and then really dug into the canvas. Look at the blue figure's arm, that sense of determined movement is created with the energy in the marks. The texture is really alive, a kind of controlled chaos that makes your eyes bounce around the canvas. There’s no hiding the process here, every decision feels visible. De Beauvoir reminds me of artists like Guston, who embraced the messy, imperfect side of painting. It’s like she's saying, "Here's the struggle, here's the joy, here's the painting."
