This is Natura Morta by Bruno Cassinari, and it’s oil on canvas, as far as I can tell. Just imagine him in his studio, pushing and pulling these shapes around on the canvas, trying to find the right balance between abstraction and representation. I love the way he's used these earthy tones, pops of blue, and vibrant greens to create a sense of depth and texture. The brushstrokes are so loose and gestural, you can almost feel the energy of his hand as he's working. There’s this zigzag of a white cloth that’s making its way from top to bottom. You can feel the rhythm of his looking. It reminds me of other painters like Giorgio Morandi, who were also exploring the possibilities of still life painting in the 20th century. They're all in conversation with each other, borrowing ideas and pushing the boundaries of what painting can be. It’s a way of seeing, thinking, and experiencing the world through color and form.
