Editor: Here we have John Frederick Lewis's "A Pulpit in the Cathedral of Salerno." It’s undated, but it certainly feels like a peek into a distant past. It feels both precise and a little ghostly. What draws your eye in this sketch? Curator: The geometry, definitely, and how it feels like a stage set, doesn't it? All those meticulous lines! Imagine Lewis, charcoal in hand, seduced by the sacred space, trying to capture its essence, its weight... almost like he's trying to build his own cathedral on paper. I wonder, did he hear echoes of sermons past as he worked? Editor: That’s a lovely thought! It does feel like a performance is about to begin. Thanks for that insight. Curator: My pleasure. Now I'm imagining the organ music.
