Twins Seven Seven made this drawing, "Midnight Drawing in My Mind #2" using pen on paper. It’s all about process here, right? Building something elaborate and playful out of simple marks. Look closely, and you’ll see how the shapes are filled with tiny, careful pen strokes, like scales or feathers. There are spirals and tendrils reaching out, and within this we see the odd flash of orange and turquoise amidst all the monochromatic marks. These feel playful against the black ground. The symmetry suggests a mask, or perhaps an emblem of a mythical creature. The top part almost looks like a head with eyes and a beak, but it's also completely abstract. Those colours dance around the form, suggesting a world of dreams, or subconscious thoughts, so typical of artists like Yves Tanguy. Ultimately, it’s all about suggestion, hinting at things without ever pinning them down.
