Biography
Goto Mitsuyasu was a Japanese metalworker specializing in the creation of tsuba, the handguards of Japanese swords. This example of a tsuba from the Edo period features a design of two stylized figures, likely warriors or mythical beings, in a dynamic pose. The intricate details and the contrasting gold, silver, and iron accents on the brown, textured surface of the tsuba demonstrate the artist's skill and the beauty of traditional Japanese metalwork.
