Biography
Giovanni Battista Vanni (1599-1660) was an Italian painter and draughtsman from Florence. He was known for his dramatic compositions and his ability to depict the human figure with great expressiveness. Vanni was a prolific artist and his work is found in churches and museums across Italy. He is especially known for his large-scale ceiling frescoes, such as those in the Church of San Lorenzo in Florence, which feature dynamic figures and swirling clouds, and his drawings, which often depict religious scenes or mythological subjects. His style was influenced by the Mannerist and Baroque movements.
