Editor: This is "Massacre in the Canyon of Death: Vision of the Sun God" by Dorothy Brett. It feels both epic and intimate, with these towering red canyon walls, and a tiny figure by a fire. How do you interpret this work? Curator: Brett’s painting vibrates with a sort of ecstatic unease, doesn't it? The sun god's face is so serene, even benevolent, yet the title hints at violence. Is this a vision of judgement, perhaps? Or maybe a personal reckoning played out in a landscape of the soul? Editor: That's a beautiful thought. It’s like the landscape is mirroring an internal drama. Curator: Precisely. Maybe that tiny figure is Brett herself, seeking light and warmth in a dangerous world. Editor: I hadn't thought of it that way. Curator: Art is all about seeing ourselves in the story, isn't it?
