This is -Lindy's Kat Bank- made by Hewter Corp., and it’s here in the Minneapolis Institute of Art. This bronze cat has such a funny expression, staring up as if it’s contemplating the meaning of money itself. I bet the artist was thinking about utility, and how we give meaning to objects, projecting all kinds of stuff onto them. It's got these very shiny and reflective surfaces—you know, kind of like that moment when you find a lost coin and realize you need to deposit it. The Lindy's Kat Bank reminds me of other artists who find meaning in the everyday, like Haim Steinbach. I can imagine Hewter’s little sculpture amongst his arrangements of found objects. All artists are connected, you know? It’s a big conversation across time and space.
