This repurposed doorstop, now a still bank, stands as a testament to anonymous creativity. I see it as a quiet act of rebellion, transforming the mundane into something whimsical. The lion, cast in metal, has this worn silver and gold patina. The lion's stance, frozen mid-stride, captures this tension between restraint and latent power. I imagine the original maker, melting down the ordinary, pouring molten metal with a focused intensity. And that tail! Arched like a question mark, it invites us to reconsider its function and meaning. I like to think about how art can emerge from the most unexpected places and materials. The artist might have felt the same. This object makes me think about artists like Hannah Wilke and Cady Noland who find ways of making artworks from discarded and found objects. They, like this anonymous artist, have something very important to say.
