Katsuhito Nishikawa, born in 1949, made this delicate work called Sardana with very light, pale marks, almost like breath on a cold window. It’s so quiet. I imagine Nishikawa methodically, patiently applying each individual mark, maybe each one is a tiny little dance in itself. I mean, what was he thinking when he made it? Was he listening to music? Was he enjoying the silence? Was he in pain? The circle, a classic form, feels radical here, like he’s trying to capture the essence of form itself. This reminds me a little bit of Agnes Martin’s subtle grids, but with a softer touch. Artists, you know, we're always looking at each other, borrowing, stealing, riffing. It’s an ongoing conversation, a dance across time. This piece, with its quietness and repetition, it’s an invitation to slow down, to feel, and maybe even to find our own little dance within it.
