Ralph Fasanella painted "The Rosenberg's: Grey Day" using oil on canvas, and the detail is just incredible. The colours are muted, not too bright, really giving that 'grey day' feeling. It’s like the painting itself is a memory, a little foggy, but full of emotion. You can almost feel the texture of the canvas through the paint. It's not trying to hide anything, everything is laid bare. Look at the way he's painted the buildings – all those little windows, each one telling a story. And then there’s that big 'A' looming over everything. It's not subtle, but it's powerful. It ties the whole composition together, like a thread connecting different parts of the story. Fasanella reminds me a bit of Philip Guston, actually. Both of them had this way of taking really serious, heavy stuff and turning it into something you could actually look at. It's a balancing act, trying to find beauty in the midst of sadness, and Fasanella does it so well here.
