This print was made for Weldon's Ladies' Journal in February 1903, by an anonymous designer. It's a collection of fashion designs, each with a distinct personality. The colours are muted, soft pastels, with a delicate touch. It feels like the artist played with watercolour washes, carefully layering them to create depth and form. Look at how the fabric drapes and flows - the artist really understood the language of textiles and how they move on the body. Notice the details, the intricate lacework, the subtle shading on the sleeves. There’s something so charming in the way the clothes are presented. It’s a bit like looking at a Degas, but instead of ballerinas, we have these elegant ladies. It reminds me that art is everywhere, in every aspect of our lives.
