This fashion plate titled ‘Les Grandes Modes de Paris, Supplement’ was made by Menetrier around 1908 and shows off a selection of new blouses. I love how the colours here are so muted, almost like a faded memory, which softens the whole image. The subtle textures created through the fine hatching lines, especially in the background, really make the blouses pop, even though the palette is so gentle. Look at the way the light catches the folds of the fabric. It's all about soft suggestion rather than hard definition. The artist's process feels very thoughtful; it’s more about capturing a mood than a mere representation. The blouse on the bottom right catches my eye— the simple lines and the way the stripes curve with the body. It reminds me a little of Sonia Delaunay, who came a little later but similarly used colour and line to explore modern life. There’s a conversation happening here about how we see and express ourselves, and how fashion can be part of that dialogue. It's a reminder that art, in any form, is always evolving.
