"Salomon wordt tot koning gezalfd en de rechtspraak van Salomon" (Salomon is Anointed King and the Judgment of Solomon), an etching and engraving created in 1791 by Jacob Folkema (1692-1767), depicts two scenes from the biblical story of Solomon. The top image shows Solomon being crowned king, while the bottom image depicts the famous "Judgment of Solomon" in which Solomon is forced to decide between two women who both claim to be the mother of the same child. Folkema's artwork is part of a series of engravings based on the Bible, and provides a detailed, narrative-driven visual representation of biblical stories that would have been accessible to the public. The Rijksmuseum houses this work.
