Curator: This is a really intriguing piece, isn't it? What we have here is an x-radiograph of a crucifix, originally by Enrico di Tedice. Editor: It's unsettling, ghostly. It's almost like seeing the soul of the wood, the bones of the art. Makes you wonder what's hidden beneath the surface of every icon. Curator: Exactly! The x-ray reveals so much about the construction, the joins, the hidden repairs, the layers of paint... the life of this religious icon. Editor: And the symbolism… a crucifix already carries so much weight, but this process of stripping it down to its most essential form only amplifies that. Like a relic, or even a shroud. Curator: I think it invites us to question our relationship with sacred objects, what constitutes their power, and how time and use transform them. Editor: It definitely challenges our assumptions about seeing, about believing. What do we truly perceive when we look at something, and what remains unseen, just beneath? Curator: Well, it’s an artwork about seeing beyond the surface. Editor: It definitely asks the viewer to examine the layers of meaning.
