This photograph of the Deli Courant typesetting room in Medan is like stepping into a memory, a ghost caught in monochrome. You can almost smell the ink and metal. I wonder what it was like for the anonymous photographer in that room. What thoughts occupied the workers as they arranged those tiny letters? Were they aware they were participating in something much bigger than themselves? For me, the beauty here lies in the unseen labor, those hands carefully placing each character, constructing language. It's a reminder that every gesture, no matter how small, can have a profound impact. Like brushstrokes on canvas. And just as painters throughout time have built upon one another's discoveries, so too does each generation of writers and printers carry forward the torch of human expression. It's all a conversation, an exchange of ideas, ever evolving, never truly finished.
