Allison Reimold painted Luna, sometime in the late 20th century, probably in oil. The blues are so dense, so saturated. The painting gives the impression of someone really enjoying the process of layering, blending, and letting those colours radiate on the canvas. The real heart of this work is in the way the Reimold handles her paint. You can see in the figure's hair how the blues vary from almost turquoise, to deep indigo, capturing the dynamism of light. The wings have a delicate, papery quality, and the all-seeing eye is both unsettling and strangely comforting. This idea of transformation – of seeing and being seen – feels akin to the work of Remedios Varo, another artist who explored the magic of the everyday with precision and grace. In the end, it's up to us to find our own meaning, and maybe that's the real magic.
