This is Aldemir Martins's painting, Frutas. Looking at the bold geometry, I imagine Martins approaching the canvas with a clear vision, each brushstroke deliberate, building up the composition. The colors are flat and vibrant. I can imagine him carefully mapping out each form. It's as if he’s simplifying the world down to its bare essentials, searching for some kind of truth. The solid planes create a sense of depth and shadow. He is working towards an essential form. There's a dialogue here between representation and abstraction, where the familiar form of fruit is abstracted into something new. Painters have always looked at the world and painted what they see but it's more than that: they're painting what they feel, what they understand. Martins is contributing to this ever-evolving conversation, reinterpreting the world for us through his unique lens.
