Luis Feito loaded this canvas with colour. What does the yellow at the top mean? The big stripe feels like a visual statement, blocking out any atmospheric perspective. Like someone saying, "Enough sky, bring on the forms!" And then, bam! Down below, a riot of color: reds, yellows, and blacks battling it out in what seems like a primordial soup. Imagine Feito in the studio, pushing that paint around, maybe with a palette knife, or a big brush, really getting in there. I’m looking at these colours - that dark violet, that ochre yellow, and that dark red. I am thinking about other painters who also used these colours, like Rothko and Gorky. Maybe Feito was thinking about them too. It’s like a painter's secret language, a conversation happening across time and space. Painting isn’t about answers, it’s about the questions we ask along the way.
