Eyvind Earle made this painting, “Mist in the Dark Woods” with lush colours layered to make an almost imaginary landscape. I can imagine him working on this, building up the layers of paint to create depth and luminosity. The surface looks smooth, and the colours are incredibly vivid. I think it is so fascinating how he used line, color and shape to suggest a feeling or a mood, rather than trying to represent the forest realistically. It's a different way of seeing, experiencing the world. There's a touch of Maxfield Parrish in here too. Painting is like having a conversation with other artists across time. We're all inspired by each other, borrowing ideas, and pushing the boundaries of what painting can be. It’s a form of expression that embraces ambiguity and uncertainty, allowing for multiple interpretations and meaning.
