Editor: This untitled piece by Felix Rozen presents rows of what appear to be coded markings. It reminds me of an index or maybe a system of measurement. What do you see in this work? Curator: I see an exploration of the means of inscription. Rozen uses minimal materials – paper and ink, it seems – to create a complex system. It challenges the traditional idea of 'high art' by focusing on process. How might this relate to systems of labor or production, would you say? Editor: Perhaps it represents a form of documentation, like a ledger of labor? It definitely makes me think about the unseen processes behind finished products. Curator: Exactly. By drawing attention to the act of mark-making itself, Rozen compels us to consider the materiality and social context of even the simplest gestures. It changes my perspective on the hidden work behind everything.
