Isabelle De Strange made this quilt, sometime between 1855 and 1995, and wow, it's all in blues! It's got this awesome repeating pattern that makes you think about how art is always built, piece by piece. The blues here are dense, like ink almost, but they also feel soft, like you could sink right in. It's cool how the texture seems smooth, but then you notice all the little marks and details. Take those eagles at the bottom, for instance. They're not perfect, but they're full of life, like they're about to take off. You get the feeling that Isabelle was just feeling it, letting the quilt grow organically. This piece reminds me a bit of the work of Gee's Bend quilters, where you see that same spirit of making something beautiful and meaningful out of whatever you have. It shows that art is really about conversation and exchange between generations.
