This roll of lilac satin ribbon with one side trimmed in black, sits in the Rijksmuseum. I can imagine Gustav Schnitzler, whoever he was, holding this small roll of ribbon in his hands. It feels so intimate, like a little painting! The ribbon is wound tightly, the layers creating subtle lines and shadows. The lilac is soft and muted, a delicate color that hints at something precious and refined. The black trim adds a touch of contrast, a bold line that defines the edge. I wonder what Schnitzler was thinking when he chose these colors? How does one go about picking ribbon? There is a tag, torn and fragile, with faded writing. The paper has aged, the ink blurred, and the edges frayed. Maybe Schnitzler kept it as a memento, a reminder of a particular project or time? I find myself feeling connected to this person across time. We are all just making things, trying to make our mark, however small.
