This untitled collage was composed by Emerson Woelffer using cut and torn paper. Look at the deckled edges, the way he's built this composition through layering. These aren't clean, perfect cuts; there's a kind of roughness, a handmade quality that I really appreciate. The colors are bold and simple, and the shapes feel both deliberate and accidental, a testament to the process of artmaking itself. I find myself drawn to the interplay between the blue and white shapes, how they push and pull against each other. It’s as if he's playing with positive and negative space, creating a dynamic relationship between the forms. The black accents anchor the composition, adding depth and contrast. I love the way the textures of the paper peek through, creating a subtle, tactile experience. Woelffer's work reminds me a bit of Matisse’s late cut-outs, in that they both embrace simplicity and explore the expressive potential of color and form, and it really celebrates the journey of creation.
