Francis Naranjo made this artwork, Robar el quedar libre. I wonder what it's like to sit with the idea of making such a piece, wrestling with the balance of dark and light, constraint and freedom. It’s like Naranjo is asking, “How do you steal the moment of liberation?” What does that even look like? The color palette is deliberately stark: deep shadows contrast with beams of fiery light that push through the darkness. A geometric form seems to float, split by a radiant line that cuts through it and casts light in horizontal beams that create a sense of being contained. It reminds me of the way Agnes Martin used to meticulously draw lines to create fields of subtle variation and resonance, exploring the potential of the grid to evoke spiritual or emotional states. Artists like Naranjo and Martin are in a constant dialogue across time, each expanding the possibilities of what art can be. They probe the boundaries of experience, inviting us to see the world in new ways.
