Editor: We're looking at Otto Lindig's "Saucer," of unknown date, at the Harvard Art Museums. It's deceptively simple, almost meditative in its form. What do you see as the core elements defining this piece? Curator: I am drawn to the purity of its geometry. The interplay between the large circle of the plate and the smaller, recessed oval creates a subtle tension. Note also the restrained palette; the barely-there blush along the rim is a critical accent. Editor: It's interesting how such a functional object can become a study in form and color. I hadn't considered the subtle blush, but it does add a layer of complexity. Curator: Precisely. Lindig challenges us to look beyond utility and appreciate the intrinsic aesthetic qualities of the ceramic medium itself. A successful exercise in pure form. Editor: I will definitely be seeing this with new eyes now. Thank you!
