Editor: Here we have a coin, titled Coin (AE2) of Magnentius. It’s undated and attributed to Magnentius. The coin's surface is heavily patinated, almost a verdigris green, which obscures some of the finer details, but it’s amazing to see it still exists after so long. What do you see in this piece? Curator: The very visible erosion is itself a significant element. Consider how the disintegration of the metal transforms the depicted imagery, forcing us to engage with absence as much as presence. The semiotic weight shifts from the intended imperial message to a meditation on time and decay. Editor: That’s a great point. It’s not just what’s there, but what’s missing. Thanks! Curator: Indeed. The aesthetic experience resides as much in this dialogue with loss as in the original form.
