This untitled sculpture was made by Mihai Olos, an artist who lived and worked through a tumultuous period of Romanian history. Olos grew up in a communist Romania, where artistic expression was often censored and controlled. Yet, there was a remarkable flourishing of creative energy that pushed against the constraints of the regime. Olos’s work, with its geometric abstraction, and use of simple, available materials, embodies a quiet but resilient form of expression.   The sculpture’s small size and delicate construction invite a sense of intimacy. We see the interplay of light and shadow across the folded surfaces. Consider how its repetitive forms create a sense of harmony, perhaps reflecting a longing for order within a chaotic world. Ultimately, this piece by Olos offers a window into the ways in which art can both reflect and transcend the circumstances of its creation, offering a testament to the enduring power of individual expression.
