Charlotte Posenenske made this untitled painting with broad, gestural marks in red, blue and black. It’s like watching a dance of color unfold before our eyes. I can imagine Charlotte in her studio, brush in hand, layering these strokes, making a kind of material thinking. I wonder if she was considering the weight and balance of these marks, as if each stroke could tip the whole composition. I sympathize with the artist as painting can be an act of trial and error, shifting and emerging through intuition. Look how the thin paint allows the white of the surface to breathe through. It's so immediate, raw and in your face! It reminds me of the work of other artists, like Franz Kline. It's as if these painters are having a conversation across time, trading ideas, daring each other to push the boundaries. Ultimately, painting is about embracing ambiguity and uncertainty and allowing for multiple interpretations. What do you see?
