This image, by Thomas Riesner, is made with ink on paper. I can only imagine Riesner’s hand at work here! Look at those dark lines zipping across the page, like nerves firing. And then, that block of brown ink, pooling, bleeding, staring out at us. It's like the artist is saying, "Here, let me show you what I see inside.” I can relate: that impulse to map out the inner world in visible form. I wonder if Riesner was thinking of other artists while making this piece. Maybe he was thinking of the visionary art of someone like William Blake. Whatever the case, he's tapped into something primal here: life and death, seeing and being seen. We all learn from each other. Art is about joining that conversation, adding your own voice. Each image, each brushstroke, is part of this ongoing, open-ended dialogue. It’s a gesture outwards, inviting connection, daring us to look closer.
