Omar Rayo made this painting, 9-Soles, without a date, though I can really imagine him in his studio making this. The shapes seem to emerge from the dark background, twisting ribbons of yellow and teal forming these almost star-like figures. I wonder what Rayo was thinking, planning, or discovering as he painted. I imagine his brush dancing, trying out different thicknesses of paint, playing with these colors, getting it just right. Look at how the shading gives depth and dimension to the shapes, making them look like they're folding over and under each other! You know, it reminds me a little bit of some Op Art, like Bridget Riley, but with its own distinct flavor. It's all about how we perceive space and form, isn't it? These kinds of works are like a conversation between artists across time, each adding their own unique voice to the mix. Ultimately, Rayo’s painting invites us to see the world in new, unexpected ways.
