Omar Rayo made this print titled 9-Soles, with an unknown medium. It looks like silkscreen. What's striking is the super flat colors and hard edges, yet they seem to hint at 3D forms. This brings to mind Sol Lewitt, who also worked with basic geometric forms and seriality. Look closely and you'll notice how Rayo uses the color and the shading to trick your eye. Each ribbon appears to weave under and over, creating a sense of depth, but it's all a carefully constructed illusion. He’s playing with our perception, questioning what is real and what is not. It reminds me of how we construct meaning from simple visual cues, building narratives and stories from the most basic elements. Like a good poem, Rayo's print leaves room for interpretation, inviting us to bring our own experiences and associations to the work. It’s a reminder that art is not just about what we see, but how we see, and the stories we tell ourselves along the way.
