This is “The Girl who turned into a Cat”, made by Gordinne. I love the way the artist takes narrative and turns it into image; not just one image, but many! It’s like a comic strip or storyboard, but before film as we know it existed. I bet Gordinne was thinking about the way stories repeat themselves, and how our lives are really just versions of tales we’ve heard before. Childhood stories are weird, right? This feels like it could be a memory, a dream, or a moral lesson! The colours are pretty subdued—yellows and greens. It feels old. Like a book you might find in your grandmother's attic. I wonder who Gordinne was looking at, which other artists might have inspired them? Ultimately, art is all about exchange—artists responding to each other across time. Each adding their own spin! This piece embraces storytelling, ambiguity and uncertainty, allowing for endless interpretations.
