This little Pig was made by the Arcade Manufacturing Company, though we don’t know exactly when or why. The dark, almost uniform color is interrupted by small patches of rust, adding depth and character to the piece. I’m really drawn to the pig's snout. It’s got this gentle curve and rounded edge, like a well-worn stone. The surface of the metal is not shiny or polished but subtly textured, as though it has lived a life, gathering dust, and perhaps even being held in someone's hand. I like to think this toy was cast as part of a batch of many farm animals. It makes me think of those old films, like "Animal Farm" or even paintings by someone like George Bellows. Ultimately, there is a sense of mystery in the piece, questions that invite us to explore ideas around labor, industry, and art. And, perhaps, to celebrate the unassuming beauty that can be found in the everyday.
