Miriam Y. Solomon made this coverlet with thread on cloth; I love how it’s a world of blues and whites. I find it amazing how you can build a picture, or a world, with just weaving, which reminds me a lot of painting. The repeating patterns create a sense of rhythm and movement. Look closely, and you'll see how the threads are interwoven, creating a texture that's both intricate and tactile. There's a real physicality to the piece, something you want to reach out and touch. The way the light catches on the raised areas and dips into the shadows adds depth and dimension. You could see artists like Anni Albers and Sheila Hicks as kindred spirits. Like them, Solomon is exploring the boundaries of her medium, pushing it in new and unexpected directions. This piece invites us to slow down, to appreciate the beauty of the handmade, and to find joy in the process of creation.
