Margaret Linsley made this coverlet section, of unknown date, with thread. It's blue and white, a classic combo that gives it a crisp, graphic feel. The whole thing is built from tiny gestures, each stitch a little decision. The texture’s fascinating; you can almost feel the give and take of the fabric, the way the threads interlock. Look closely, and you'll see how the white threads pop against the deep blue. It's like Linsley is playing with positive and negative space, figuring out how to build form with the simplest moves. The central star-like shape anchors the whole design. It radiates outwards, connecting to the floral motifs. It's both solid and airy, a real testament to the power of careful craftsmanship. It reminds me a bit of Anni Albers' weaving, which elevate craft to high art. Both of them are interested in the language of textiles. It’s about slowing down, paying attention, and finding beauty in the unexpected.
