Yervand Kochar made this three-dimensional painting in space, and that phrase is so evocative, right? Imagine the layers of painted figures rising up. I can almost feel Kochar circling the work, adding those smoky, blended colors, and letting the figures emerge from the shadows. I wonder if he felt like he was coaxing them into existence. There's a real drama in the contrast between the dark base and the light, ethereal forms above. The lines themselves have a sculptural quality, like he’s carving shapes out of thin air. It reminds me of Picasso’s cubist experiments, but Kochar takes it into another dimension—literally. It's as if he's asking, how can painting break free from the flat surface? I love seeing how artists build upon each other’s ideas across time.
