This vase, painted with flowers in light and dark green, was made by N.V. Plateelbakkerij Zuid-Holland. The controlled drips and runs of paint are part of the process, the whole vibe is about letting go, but with an eye for beauty, like a dance between intention and accident. Up close, the glaze has this amazing slickness, a shiny surface that feels almost alive. The colours, those greens and earthy tones, give it a grounding, organic feel, like it grew out of the earth itself. Look at how the artist lets the dark outlines bleed into the lighter greens of the stems, creating a sense of depth and shadow. It’s about the push and pull, the give and take. It puts me in mind of Christopher Dresser, his work also had this ability to find a unique kind of beauty by focusing on the making. In art, like in life, it’s about embracing the unexpected, finding the beauty in the imperfections.
