This is Barry Le Va’s Study for "Accumulated Vision, Series II," a drawing on paper. The lines are like whispers, aren't they? I love how Le Va embraced the process of artmaking, like a jazz musician riffing on a theme. The graphite is so light, almost translucent, yet it creates a sense of depth and space. See how the lines build up to form these fragmented cubes, like puzzle pieces floating in the air? They remind me of architectural models or blueprints, but they're also so fragile and ephemeral. Look at the tape holding down the corners of the drawing – it adds a tactile quality to the work, as if Le Va wants us to feel the materiality of the paper. This piece makes me think of Sol LeWitt, who also explored the intersection of geometry and chance. But while LeWitt's work is precise and calculated, Le Va's has a looser, more improvisational feel. It's all about the conversation, the push and pull of ideas, isn't it?
