These are a pair of tricot evening gloves by Christian Dior. There is something about the way these gloves appear to be reaching out, like in a surrealist painting. The material has a beautiful sheen to it, a light catching gold colour. It is so tactile. It's not just about how they look, but how they feel, both against your skin and how they feel to look at. I think it’s interesting how the folds and creases in the fabric create these subtle, organic forms. It’s almost like the fabric itself is breathing, full of soft, subtle gestures. Like the shadows in a Morandi painting, it's that slight undulation in the fabric which makes them appear more alive. The idea of pairing and repetition is a consistent theme across art and design. These gloves remind me of Warhol's pop art - that idea of repetition in difference. It's an art that embraces ambiguity, an ambiguity that allows for multiple interpretations.
