Camilla d’Errico painted this image of a dog, though when is anyone’s guess. The dog looks like it's emerging from the bright blue sky, with its two different colored eyes wide and unblinking. And then what’s going on at the bottom? Is it a pool? A hallucination? Is the dog floating? Drowning? I feel like this artist must have been having so much fun, playing with line and color. What a trippy image. The rainbow pattern in the foreground oozes down the canvas, creating a vivid contrast with the dog's fur. I love how a painting can just be an experiment with color. Maybe d’Errico was inspired by psychedelic art and decided to paint a cute animal at the same time. It makes me think of the ways artists build on one another’s work. Maybe she saw a David Hockney pool and thought to herself, how can I make this even weirder?
