Harrie Gerritz made this landscape print at an unknown date with, what looks like, screen printing. I am really drawn to the top section of the print. The flat area of blue, with the rectangle of many colors nestled on top, like a weird, vibrant sky reflection. There's something about the surface quality too. The colors aren’t blended; they sit side by side, creating a vibrating energy. That block of color reminds me a little of Agnes Martin’s grids, but with a playful twist. You can almost feel the artist carefully laying down each line, building up the image, layer by layer. It makes me think about how we construct our own landscapes, both inner and outer, through memories, emotions, and experiences. It is not about one definitive picture, but about many layers on top of each other, which might be why this work feels so open-ended.
