This fashion plate, *Ingénue,* was made in 1921-1922 by G-P. Joumard, and it looks like it was made with ink and paint. It's so minimal, just a few lines and washes of color, but it really captures the feeling of the time, the way art deco fashion was all about shape and movement. The first thing I notice is the dress. It's this soft, petal pink, with these long, flowing lines. It's almost like the dress is floating around her. And then there's that lacy collar, a cloud of delicate silver. The way Joumard uses the lines to suggest folds and drapes, it's so simple, but so effective. It's all about suggestion, leaving space for the imagination. The background is barely there, just a few quick scribbles of green and black. You know, this reminds me of some of Erté’s work, with its focus on elegance and the stylized figure. Fashion plates aren't trying to be real, they're about creating a fantasy, a dream of beauty and sophistication. And sometimes, that's more interesting than reality.
