This large-scale installation by Francis Naranjo uses fluorescent lamps arranged in concentric circles. It feels so luminous, almost like staring into the sun, which makes me think about the title, "Insolación", which, in Spanish, means sunstroke. I imagine Naranjo in this space, figuring out how to configure the lamps, maybe adjusting the angle of each one, considering the way the light will bounce off the surrounding architecture. He’s thinking about the architecture in a way, the building almost becomes a kind of canvas! The piece resonates with the work of light artists like James Turrell, who create immersive environments that invite viewers to contemplate the nature of perception, the way our bodies feel light. Ultimately, Naranjo's installation serves as a reminder of the ongoing conversation between artists across time and space, inspiring new ways of seeing and experiencing the world.
