Curator: The castle ruin, of course, dominates. What does a ruin signify? Often, loss, the passage of time, the fading of power. Note how it’s being overgrown. Does that suggest nature reclaiming what was once human dominion? Editor: I see what you mean. The muted colors add to that feeling of something fading away. Curator: Exactly. The artist is using visual language to speak about history, memory, and the inevitable decline of even the grandest structures. Editor: I hadn't considered the symbolism so deeply. Now it feels much more layered. Curator: Visual imagery is always more potent once we recognize what lingers in the memory of the symbol!
